Design
Stone & Timber: Building the Mountain Aesthetic
June 22, 20254 min readAlpine View Team

The mountain aesthetic is a balance: warmth, weight, light. Done well, it ages beautifully — done poorly, it looks like a theme park.
Use real materials, generously
If you're going to use stone, commit. Full-height columns and chimneys read as architecture. Stone that stops 18" up reads like cladding. Same with timber — beams should be sized for the room they're in.
Detail the transitions
Where stone meets stucco, where timber meets drywall, where the deck meets the door — these transitions are where mountain homes earn their character. We build mockups so you can see them before they're permanent.
